Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program which enlists the active participation of citizens of a particular neighborhood, in cooperation with the Fulton Police Department to reduce crime in your community.

What does it involve?

Neighbors getting to know each other and working together in a program of mutual assistance. (It's amazing how many citizens don't know who lives next door)

• Citizens being trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhood
• Implementation of crime prevention techniques to reduce crime (good lighting, locks, trimming trees/shrubs etc)

Why do we need neighborhood watch?

• Crime is on the rise everywhere, Fulton is no exception
• We cannot afford to put a police officer on every corner, so we need your eyes and ears
• You know your neighborhood better than anyone
• By working together with law enforcement, people can fight crime in the most effective way - before it begins

How do I start a neighborhood watch in my neighborhood?

• Start by talking to your neighbors to see if they are interested. This gives you a good excuse to introduce yourself.
• Set up a meeting time and place. Many people will host the meeting in their homes. The police department also has a meeting room which can also be used.
• Contact Major Rice or Chief Myers.

At the first meeting each participant will introduce themselves and tell us what concerns you have in your neighborhood.

We will assess the complaints and do a brief security evaluation of your neighborhood, such as street lighting and traffic patterns.

We will install neighborhood watch signs in the neighborhood, putting potential criminals on notice that someone will be watching and will report suspicious activity to the police.

Neighborhood watch works as long as the neighbors work together. (In some areas crime has dropped 50 %).
