Bubba Times

What is the Bubba Times?

When we originally started “Operation Drug Dog” we made a commitment to publish a newsletter so that community investors could keep up with the activities of our K-9 program. Unfortunately, the costs associated with mailing thousands of letters became too much and the program was discontinued. We’re happy that we can present it for you here on our web site. Even though the names of our dogs may change, this newsletter will continue to be named after our first drug sniffing dog, Bubba.

Bubba, pictured below, is our veteran drug dog.  Bubba has been with the Fulton Police Department for 14 years.  He has been responsible for numerous searches which resulted in the confiscation of drugs and money.  Bubba, who is 17 years old, is semi retired and is presently living with his handler, lt. Lyla Robbins.  Lt. Robbins and Bubba have  been doing programs in our local schools. In October 2004, to celebrate “Red Ribbon Week” at Hatton Elementary school, they did an assembly with the entire school. After Bubba did a demonstration for the younger children, Lt. Robbins met with the 7th and 8th grade class for a discussion on drug dogs and how they worked.

Bubba also conducted  searches of  Fulton High School and Fulton Middle School.

The department purchased a new dog, Buddy (right) in 2002.  Buddy a 2 year old Golden Retriever passed away in the summer of 2004.

Buddy did an excellent job as a drug dog conducting vehicle searches.  He was also used to do locker searches in our public schools.  He recovered marijuana, paraphernalia and a pistol.  He will be sadly missed.
